Community Edition

The Community Edition is a fully functional version of ricochet that is free to use. It provides everything individuals need to publish and maintain their apps and tasks.

A powerful Community Edition is important to us. We believe there is a good middle ground between community and enterprise offerings: one where individual users get a complete, production-ready platform, and where teams get advanced sharing and security capabilities.

The Community Edition gives you access to:

  • Deploying and managing apps and tasks
  • SSO authentication
  • Scheduling and task invocation
  • CLI-based deployments

We want the Community Edition offering to be genuinely useful while still drawing a clear line between individual use and enterprise use. These boundaries exist to keep that distinction honest and sustainable:

  • Single server: because Community Edition is meant for personal infrastructure, not multi-environment or clustered setups.
  • No auto-scaling: because operating resilient, scalable systems is a core enterprise capability.
  • Public apps only: private apps require RBAC and access control, which are enterprise security capabilities.
  • Up to 2 users: to support individual use or light collaboration, not teams.
  • No audit logging or compliance features: required for regulated and organizational environments.
  • Always-online license: license verification requires an internet connection. Air-gapped and offline installations require additional security controls available in enterprise.
  • Up to 5 Git-based deployments: because large-scale GitOps workflows are an enterprise concern.
  • Up to 5 scheduled tasks: scheduling at scale is part of enterprise operations.

We include up to 5 Git-based deployments and 5 scheduled tasks so you can get a real taste of ricochet’s automation and workflow capabilities. These features are intentionally capped to demonstrate what’s possible, without turning the Community Edition into a full enterprise platform.

These limits are not about restricting what you can build—they exist to draw a clear, honest boundary between community usage and enterprise operations.

Ricochet’s free offerings exist because we believe powerful tooling should be accessible to individuals and small teams. At the same time, continuing to build, maintain, and improve ricochet requires a sustainable business. Our enterprise offerings fund development, operations, and support while investing back into the community and product.

Striking this balance is difficult, and we expect to keep iterating on where these boundaries are drawn as ricochet and its community grow. 🤍🐇
