Community Edition
The Community Edition is a full version of ricochet that is free to use. It gives you everything you need to publish and run your own apps and tasks.
Philosophy
Section titled “Philosophy”A strong Community Edition matters to us. We think there is a good middle ground between free and enterprise plans. Individual users get a complete platform that is ready for production. Teams get advanced sharing and security features.
What’s Included
Section titled “What’s Included”The Community Edition gives you access to:
- Deploying and managing apps and tasks
- SSO authentication
- Scheduling and task invocation
- CLI-based deployments
Limits
Section titled “Limits”We want the Community Edition to be truly useful. We also want a clear line between personal use and enterprise use. These limits keep that line honest and let us sustain it:
- Public apps only: private apps need RBAC and access control, which are enterprise security features.
- Up to 2 developers: more users can join as consumers, but only two users can hold the Admin or Developer role.
- No audit logging or compliance features: regulated teams and larger organizations need these.
- Always-online license: checking the license needs an internet connection. Air-gapped and offline installs need extra security controls, which come with enterprise.
- Up to 3 Git-based deployments: large-scale GitOps workflows are an enterprise need.
You get up to 3 Git-based deployments so you can try ricochet’s automated deployment workflow before you upgrade.
These limits do not restrict what you can build. They draw a clear, honest line between community use and enterprise operations.
Sustainability
Section titled “Sustainability”Ricochet has free plans because we think good tools should be open to individuals and small teams. To keep building, maintaining, and improving ricochet, we also need a business that lasts. Our enterprise plans pay for development, operations, and support. They also fund new work on the product and the community.
This balance is hard to strike. We expect to keep adjusting these limits as ricochet and its community grow. 🤍🐇
