Instance Authentication
By default, members sign in to an instance with their Ricochet Cloud account. An owner or admin can connect an instance to your own OpenID Connect (OIDC) provider instead, under Instances, then Authentication on the instance card.
Connect an OIDC provider
Section titled “Connect an OIDC provider”-
Select External OpenID Connect provider.
-
Register an application in your identity provider with the authorization code flow, PKCE, and the
openid, profile, andemailscopes.Add the Redirect URI shown in the dialog to the application’s allowed redirect URIs.
-
Enter the Issuer URL and Client ID.
-
Enter the Client secret for a confidential client, or leave it blank for a public client.
-
Set Claim mapping if your tokens use different display name or groups claims.
-
Select Save authentication.
The instance restarts to apply the change. Once it is Running again, test sign-in in a fresh browser session. Saving validates the format only, not whether your provider accepts the credentials.
For provider-specific settings, see the Microsoft Entra ID and Auth0 examples. Each configuration key there maps to the dialog field of the same name.
Who can sign in
Section titled “Who can sign in”With an external provider, instance access in the portal no longer controls sign-in. Restrict sign-in through application assignments in your identity provider. Inside the instance, user roles and content permissions still apply.
Existing accounts, roles, and content ownership are not migrated when you switch providers.
Restore managed sign-in
Section titled “Restore managed sign-in”Select Managed Ricochet sign-in in the Authentication dialog and save.
